About Jackie

Mezzo-soprano Jackie Tawil has performed in venues all over the southeast, including Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. Her experience has included a diverse range of venues such as convention centers, schools, churches, theatres, and sports stadiums. In addition to these venues, Jackie has also performed in non-conventional venues, including the Memphis Zoo, retirement homes, and summer camps. While Jackie is based in the US, she also has performed internationally in Italy, including Teatro Comunale in Urbania.

As a young artist, Jackie has a strong presence in the community. Recently, she won first place in the Beethoven Club of Memphis 2026 Young Artists Competition. She also sang in a caroling trio through American Caroling Company. She has recently sung Halloween carols at the Memphis Zoo Boo and Christmas Carols at a private party in Collierville, Tennessee.

In addition to opera, Jackie has been a professional church singer since 2023. Currently, she is a staff singer at Germantown Presbyterian Church in Germantown, Tennessee. She has been employed at the church since November when she was a last minute replacement for Gjejo’s Sunrise Mass. After her engagement in the Gjejo, she was the soloist in Trotta’s Seven Last Words.

Jackie currently sings Italian, German, French, and English repertoire, consisting of classical to contemporary time periods. Some of the composers she often sings are Mozart, Verdi, and Barber. She has also dabbled into some musical theatre, playing Clara in Light in the Piazza at the Averitt Center for the Arts in Statesboro, Georgia. Jackie recently performed in the University of Memphis Opera Gala on April 25 as Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto Quartet, Yolanda in Elizabeth Maconchy’s The Sofa, and made her French opera debut as a Spirit in the Act 1 Finale from Massenet’s Cendrillon. She will also be performing her recital with pianist Amy Nguyn this upcoming August, consisting of works by Rossini, Debussy, Schubert, and Heggie.

This summer, Jackie will be attending Opera Seme in Arezzo, Italy on scholarship to perform Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Past programs she has attended include Sewanee OperaFest, Harrower Opera Workshop in Atlanta, Georgia, Spotlight on Opera at Tulsa Opera, FIO Italia in Urbania, Italy, and OperUS in Trieste, Italy. Jackie is grateful to have had opportunities to sing in masterclasses with incredible people in the industry, most recently with Jamie Barton through Opera Memphis.

Jackie is a recent graduate of Georgia Southern University, where she achieved her master’s degree in vocal performance. Currently, Jackie lives in Memphis, Tennessee and trains with Metropolitan Opera contralto Megan Esther Grey and coaches with Stephen Karr. She also trains in acting and opera with Ben Smith.

Jackie is a native southerner, born and raised in Tampa, Florida. When Jackie is not singing, she likes to stay active, try new foods, and go on adventures with her friends. She is frequently seen taking barre and Pilates classes or taking a walk in the park on a nice day.
